No Water on Your Acreage? A San Joaquin Valley Troubleshooting Guide
There is nothing more stressful than opening the tap and hearing nothing. Before you assume the worst, there are a few simple things you can check on your San Joaquin Valley acreage.
1. Check Your Breakers
It sounds basic, but a tripped circuit breaker is the most common cause of a sudden system stop. Locate your well pump breaker box and check if anything has tripped.
2. Inspect the Pressure Gauge
Does your pressure gauge read zero? If so, the pump isn’t delivering pressure to the tank. If it’s reading high but no water is coming out, you may have a plumbing blockage between the tank and the house.
3. Check the Pressure Switch
This is the “brain” of your pump system. Sometimes, a buildup of sediment can clog the small pipe leading to the pressure switch, preventing it from “seeing” the pressure and telling the pump to turn on.
4. Listen for Short Cycling
If you hear the pump clicking on and off rapidly, that is “short cycling,” which is a major red flag that you have a waterlogged pressure tank.
5. Check the Snifter Valve
If your system relies on an older air-over-water setup, a faulty snifter valve could mean your tank is completely waterlogged.
